Mighty Black Knight slot machine is a medieval themed Barcrest slot. Set in a castle, the colour scheme has a darkish hue with colours ranging from black and dark purple. The atmosphere is almost mysterious and eerie, with the only light being driven from torch light. The symbols here go.
Mighty Black Knight is a 5 reel, 10 to 100 payline slot which is powered by Barcrest. Following on from WMS’ Black Knight and Black Knight II (Barcrest & WMS are part of Scientific Games), it can be played from 10p to £250 a spin across desktop, mobile and tablet devices. The game offers you free spins, a Big Bet feature as well as expanding and persistent expanding wilds.
Visually, it still has a medieval theme and the same graphics/feel as it’s WMS counterparts (both online/offline) – symbols on the reels include spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs (low value symbols) as well as maps, rings, orbs, crowns, queens and kings (high value symbol). The king is the highest value symbol giving you 5 times your stake for 5 across a payline. The Mighty Black Knight is the wild symbol which replaces all symbols bar the scatter.
In terms of gameplay, the first decision you need to make is what stake you play at – if playing at under £2 a spin, the Return to Player % will be 94%. If over £2 a spin, it will be 96%. In the Big Bet Mode feature (more on that later), it increases to 98%. The amount you play at affects the number of paylines you will play with – it can increase up to 50 paylines.
The Mighty Black Knight wild symbol is important – when a 3-symbol high wild symbol lands fully on the reels, it will trigger the Mighty Reels feature. As a result, the upper reel window opens up with the number of paylines doubling to 100. The wild symbol then expands vertically to fill the whole reel. The wild can land on all 5 reels meaning you could get a screen full of wilds.
Mighty Black Knight comes with a Free Spins feature which is played when 3 or more Bonus scatter symbols appear anywhere on the reels, 3, 4 or 5 scatters will give you 8, 12 or 20 free spins respectively. Look out for scatters during the feature as you can win more free spins – that means you can play with 40 free spins in total.
More importantly, you can trigger the Mighty Reels features when an expanding wild lands 3 high fully on the reels – the paylines goes up to 100 with the wild expanding to take over the whole reel.
Being a Barcrest title, there’s a Big Bet Mode feature which consists of 5 linked spins for a much bigger price – the value of symbols increases and the chance of triggering the Mighty Reels feature also increases. Anyway, there’s a few options which are described below:
- £20 Big Bet option: 5 linked spins with Mighty Reels feature applying more frequently
- £30 Big Bet option: 5 linked spins with Mighty Reels feature applying more frequently and lower value symbols removed from the reels
- £50 Big Bet option: 5 linked spins with Mighty Reels feature applying more frequently, lower value symbols removed from the reels and expanding wilds remaining on the reels until you get a win
In any of the Big Bet options, you can trigger the Free Spins feature which will give you up to 40 free spins with the Mighty Reels feature triggering more, low value symbols removed and persistent wilds (depending on the option you chose).
Mighty Black Knight is a welcome addition to the Black Knight family and has the expect Barcrest touch with the Big Bet Mode feature. If you have the pockets, I would recommend using the Big Bet Mode feature as the rewards are much bigger – especially if you get persistent wilds with the £50 option.
I found Mighty Black Knight to be a medium to high variance offering with maximum wins of 1,000 times your stake on each spin/free spin. Saying that, I still prefer to play Black Knight II as the Free Spins feature cannot be beaten.
